Clip from the 1977 movie "Raid on Entebbe" (150 min). The operation (Operation Thunderbolt) took place at night, as Israeli transport planes carried 100 commandos over 2,500 miles (4,000 km) to Uganda for the rescue operation. The operation, which took a week of planning, lasted 90 minutes and 102 hostages were rescued. Five Israeli commandos were wounded and one, the commander, Lt Col Yonatan Netanyahu, was killed. All the hijackers, three hostages and 45 Ugandan soldiers were killed, and thirty Soviet-built MiG-17s and MiG-21s of Uganda's air force were destroyed. Uganda is to undertake a major expansion project on its Entebbe International Airport. The multi-billion dollar project will see a complete remodeling and extension of the airport that lies along the shores of Africa's largest Lake Victoria. CCTV's Michael Baleke has that report
Greatest Hostage Rescue operation in the History: Operation Thunderbolt : Entebbe Airport..Uganda Operation Entebbe was a counter-terrorist hostage-rescue mission carried out by commandos of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) at Entebbe Airport in Uganda on 4 July 1976. A week earlier, on 27 June, an Air France plane with 248 passengers was hijacked, by members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and the German Revolutionary Cells, and flown to Entebbe, the main airport of Uganda. The local government supported the hijackers and dictator Idi Amin personally welcomed them. Kenyan sources supported Israel and in the aftermath of the operation Idi Amin issued orders to retaliate and slaughter several hundreds of Kenyans present in Uganda. The hijackers separated the Israelis and...
The US Embassy in Uganda has warned of a specific threat by an unknown terrorist group to attack the country's only international airport. Uganda is looking for partners to finance a $ 400 million Master Plan for the country's aviation industry. The Civil Aviation project will see a total overhaul and expansion of the Entebbe International Airport and the upgrading of several airstrips. CCTV's Michael Baleke has that report.
The risk involved was extraordinary... The timing had to be impeccable and the entire rescue operation rested on achieving the element of surprise. When Israeli citizens were held hostage by terrorists at Entebbe Airport in Uganda in late June 1976, Israeli commandos and soldiers embarked on one of the most daring and dangerous rescue operations ever in order to save them. See how Israel pulled off this seemingly impossible stunt in the video below.

I took an early morning walk down the main road from international airport of Uganda to the capital of Uganda, and was connecting and learning from the locals the way of life. It was interesting to understand the Chinese investment banks are heavily investing in the infrastructure projects across Uganda and further reach of the country and African continent.
Civil Aviation Authority officials say there will be no shoddy works in the upgrade of Entebbe international airport project being undertaken by a Chinese company. The authority points out that although the contractor is supposed to build and design the several construction works under the project, they are being supervised by other entities including Ugandan engineers. This as they airport authorities explained to media why there have been intensified baggage checks at the gateway to Uganda as this has irritated many arriving passengers. Here is more

A very exciting time for me since this was my first time arriving in Uganda after 22 years. Lived in Uganda for 3 years as a diplomat's child. The landing on South African Airways was nice and smooth. The scenery is always great since Entebbe is right by the Lake Victoria, the largest lake in Africa.
