Uganda is to undertake a major expansion project on its Entebbe International Airport. The multi-billion dollar project will see a complete remodeling and extension of the airport that lies along the shores of Africa's largest Lake Victoria. CCTV's Michael Baleke has that report
Clip from the 1977 movie "Raid on Entebbe" (150 min). The operation (Operation Thunderbolt) took place at night, as Israeli transport planes carried 100 commandos over 2,500 miles (4,000 km) to Uganda for the rescue operation. The operation, which took a week of planning, lasted 90 minutes and 102 hostages were rescued. Five Israeli commandos were wounded and one, the commander, Lt Col Yonatan Netanyahu, was killed. All the hijackers, three hostages and 45 Ugandan soldiers were killed, and thirty Soviet-built MiG-17s and MiG-21s of Uganda's air force were destroyed. A fourth hostage was killed by Ugandan army officers at a nearby hospital.
The US Embassy in Uganda has warned of a specific threat by an unknown terrorist group to attack the country's only international airport. A very exciting time for me since this was my first time arriving in Uganda after 22 years. Lived in Uganda for 3 years as a diplomat's child. The landing on South African Airways was nice and smooth. The scenery is always great since Entebbe is right by the Lake Victoria, the largest lake in Africa.

Uganda is looking for partners to finance a $ 400 million Master Plan for the country's aviation industry. The Civil Aviation project will see a total overhaul and expansion of the Entebbe International Airport and the upgrading of several airstrips. CCTV's Michael Baleke has that report.
I took an early morning walk down the main road from international airport of Uganda to the capital of Uganda, and was connecting and learning from the locals the way of life. It was interesting to understand the Chinese investment banks are heavily investing in the infrastructure projects across Uganda and further reach of the country and African continent.
Operation Entebbe (military code name Operation Thunderbolt) was a counter-terrorist hostage-rescue mission carried out by commandos of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) at Entebbe Airport in Uganda on 4 July 1976 to free more than 100 Israeli and Jewish passengers, along with the non-Jewish pilot Captain Bacos, who remained as hostages and were threatened with death. The risk involved was extraordinary... The timing had to be impeccable and the entire rescue operation rested on achieving the element of surprise. When Israeli citizens were held hostage by terrorists at Entebbe Airport in Uganda in late June 1976, Israeli commandos and soldiers embarked on one of the most daring and dangerous rescue operations ever in order to save them. See how Israel pulled off this seemingly impossible stunt in the video below.
